Best Beauty Products of 2013

If you know me in real life then you know that I am a bit of a beauty junkie. I love researching and trying new products, as well as watching beauty videos on YouTube A LOT (and Ben loves making fun of me for this as well). So, I thought it might be fun to share some of my favorite skin care & makeup products with you all.
2013 skin care favorites

1. Clarisonic Mia: I use my Clarisonic every night to remove my makeup from the day. It does a great job of deep cleaning your skin without being too rough. I can really tell a difference when I go a day or two without using the Clarisonic. My face just does not feel as clean. I've used this thing a thousand times and it still amazes me every time when I look at the brush head and see how nasty it looks! It also helps to open your pores so moisturizers absorb better on the skin.
2. Philosophy Purity: I use this cleanser both in the morning and at night with my clarisonic. It is very gentle, but does a great job of removing oil and dirt. I purchase the huge bottle during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale at the end of the summer and it is big enough to last all year.
3. Oil of Olay All Day Moisturizer SPF 15: This is my go to moisturizer. I put it on each morning and it absorbs well. It's nothing fancy, but it has sunscreen & it's perfect for my needs.
4. Aquaphor Advanced Therapy: this stuff is amazing for dry skin..I have been using it constantly this winter on my hands and lips. I also use the lotion year around when I get out of the shower. It's really thick, but it absorbs well after a shower & it keeps my skin super soft and hydrated.
5. Oil of Olay Anti-Aging Night Firming Treatment: I know most of you are thinking "you're a little too young for firming cream", but honestly this cream is just very moisturizing and seems to give my skin that extra boost it needs. I recently started using RetinA in hopes to fade my freckles and repair my sun damaged nose, and this cream has kept my face from peeling from the RetinA.
6. One more product I forgot to include above: the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay Mask: this is one tough mask. It will pull out all the gunk and really helps to remove black heads that otherwise would never budge. Not to mention, it's SO CHEAP!

2013 makeup favorites
1. Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation: this foundation is medium coverage, goes on and absorbs easily, and smells like roses. What more could you want with a foundation?!
2. Mac Blush: I have two favorite colors…Well Dressed & Warm Soul. Well Dressed is a pale pink that leaves a nice natural flush. I discovered Warm Soul when I had my makeup done for my 21st birthday..it's a bronzy blush that looks awesome when you have a tan. I'm not a huge blush girl, but I do like the Mac blushes because they are relatively cheap and seem to last throughout the day.
3. Revlon Lip Butters: these are super creamy and have great color payoff. They also come in a ton of colors and vary from super sheen to opaque colors.
4. Nars Laguna Bronzer: laguna is a matte bronzer so it doesn't look all shiny and glittery, however, you do have to be careful with it because it gives off A LOT of color so you have to make sure you buff it out
5. Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara: I just discovered this mascara through one of the Sephora 100 point gifts, but I can tell it's going to be a favorite and I already ordered a full size tube. It makes my lashes look super long and full and does not wear off and leave black specks under my eyes like so many mascaras do. It is pretty hard to remove though, so I save it for special occasions.
6. Clinique High Lengths Mascara: this is a great everyday mascara..it lengthens my lashes without looking too overdone. It also comes off with just water and cleanser at night so thats a nice plus.
7. Maybelline Gel Eyeliner: this eyeliner is an exact dupe for Bobbi Brown's gel eyeliner at a fraction of the cost. It goes on smooth and lasts all day/night. The jar also comes with a little brush which is great if you do not own a lot of brushes.
8. Mac eyeshadow: I have long been a lover of Mac eyeshadows. Personally, I think that they are better than any other brand just because they do not have fall out (like Urban Decay does) and the color payoff is phenomenal. Not to mention they come in a billion colors. I de-pot all of my Mac eyeshadows and put them into a palate to make it easier to keep them all together & travel with them. Two of my favorite colors this year were Satin Taupe and Quarry--they look great together!
9. Buxom Full-On Lip Polish: I discovered this through a friend back in the Spring, and I have been hooked ever since. It does have plumping characteristics and is a bit tingly, but nothing too crazy. It also has a smell likes vanilla, is moisturizing, and isn't too sticky--I can't stand sticky lipgloss!!

So there you have it, some of my favorite beauty products. Am I missing any products that I absolutely need to try? I haven't found an eye cream that I love yet because it seems every one that I try burns my eyes by morning or never actually absorbs so if you have any good recs send them my way!!

Fall Favorites

It's FINALLY starting to feel (a bit) like fall here in Georgia, and I wanted to share some of my favorite fall pieces that I've been enjoying with you all!

I tweeted about my love for this jacket a while ago. Lana talked me into buying this jacket during a special sale at Heery's a couple months ago. I've never been a lover of rainy weather, but this jacket makes me enjoy it much more! Its very lightweight and has a silky inside shell.

These pants should come as no surprise to anyone who knows me in real life. I've long been a lover of these pants, but I decided to branch out this year and get a gray and navy pair during one of J. Crew's 25% off sales. They can easily be dressed up or down, keep their shape, and do not stretch out. They're the perfect pants in my opinion.

Even though I own a few too many pairs of Frye boots, I tend to always reach for these. They go with everything and are super comfy. In my opinion, Fryes are totally worth the money..unlike many of my other pairs of pricey shoes (I'm looking at you Tory Burch revas!!)
I really enjoyed J.Crew Factory's 50% off sale last weekend. I was trying to check out Monday night before the sale ended at midnight, but the website was having some glitches. I went on to bed thinking it was a sign I wasn't supposed to buy anything. Fast forward to 3am when I woke up and was wide awake. I decided to check the site & see what the new promotion would be. I looked in my cart & to my surprise all of my items were still showing up at 50% off! I then saw that the new promotion was 30% off all tops, so I tried that code as well & it worked! I was so excited. I ended up getting a couple great blouses for less than $30 each!!

I'm planning to finish switching my closet over to my fall/winter items this week, and I cannot wait to pull out my fur vests and scarves. The temperatures this week range from the 40s-low 70s & I couldn't be more happy about that. I don't know how I didn't like cold weather when I was younger! I have been waiting for it to get cold since Labor Day now :)

I'll do a fall wish list post soon so be on the lookout for that as well! In the meantime, what are some of your fall favorites?
xoxo,
Leah

Life Updates

Life has been off the chain lately. I always log into my blog with plans to write a post, but seem to constantly get distracted.

I was not planning for this semester to be as busy as it has been, but unfortunately it seems my life consists of project upon project upon project. Why do teachers like giving projects so much?! Like why can't I just have a test and move on? It's driving me crazy. Okay, I'll stop venting now :)

I've also been pretty consumed on the weekends with tailgating and Georgia football games, but I am not complaining! The game against LSU last weekend was one that I will never forget. I've never been to such an exciting game at Sanford before. The energy between the fans and players was incredible. B & I are heading to Knoxville, Tennessee tomorrow for the GA/UT game. Ben's cousin, Morgan, is a student there and I'm so excited to see her! She is my twin...it's scary how much we are alike!

UGA/UT game 2 years ago..the 1st time we met!
I ordered these booties a few weeks ago, but when they came in last week they were unfortunately too tight around my ankle and just looked silly :(.

I didn't think I had large ankles, but according to my sister, they made my feet look like clown feet because they were so tight on my ankles. So sad, they are so cute! And I already ordered another color in them before I received the first pair because I thought they were going to be the perfect booties! Maybe the different color will fit better. Fingers crossed!!
If anyone has some suggestions for other booties like this style send me your recommendations!! I am dying for a good pair.

I guess it's time for me to get back to paying attention in class. I'm hoping to get better about updating this little blog...we'll see ;).

Leah

Wish List Wednesday

Hello everyone, long time no blog! Sorry about that, but life has been crazy the past few weeks. I had a whirlwind trip to Florida two weekends ago & last weekend Ben and I had a wedding to attend. I'm also still trying to get back into the swing of school again.

But anyways enough of the boring stuff, lets talk about something exciting! My fall wish list is out.of.control. right now, but I'm really trying to wait until it cools off a bit here in Georgia before purchasing many fall items. So without further ado, here are just a few things I'm currently craving.

After seeing this sweater & this scarf on Shelby of Glitter and Gingham earlier this week I am fighting a serious urge to purchase both of them right now!

I need this red mini mac for the UGA game this weekend!

I missed out on this polka dot blouse from the real J.Crew last year, but my BFF J.Crew Factory has is this year! The best part is it's 1/2 off right now

I'm also craving these polka dot cords for the cooler months. I guess you could say I have a thing for dots..

And last, but certainly not least, I am really wishing I could find some tickets for the Clemson game this weekend! Unfortunately, I was not awarded a student ticket for the game and I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for some seats either. Maybe some good karma will come my way on Saturday ;)

Happy Wednesday everyone!!

Summer Stripes

Top (no longer available) similar: J Crew Factory/ Skirt: J Crew Factory/ Shoes: Jack Rogers/ Necklace: J Crew Factory/ Watch: Michael Kors/ Earrings: Kendra Scott

I have a confession to make. I rarely never wear skirts. I've always been the girl to choose shorts over a skirt any day. That is until this year when I discovered a few skirts at J.Crew Factory that completely changed my anti-skirt wardrobe. I have been loving skirts like this one for dressy work wear!

Before taking these outfit pictures I didn't realize I was a walking J Crew Factory ad. Oops. Sorry bout that, but it isn't the first time and probably won't be the last time it happens. I'm in a serious relationship with everything J Crew. I'm sure some of y'all understand ;)

What do you all think of my first OOTD photos?! I've never done them before so Ben and I had fun (I think I was having more fun that him) playing around with these. Let me know what you think!
Also, note to self to remember to take my hair tie off my wrist next time. I have a terrible habit of always having one on!

I also included a picture from the new juice place in Athens, Journey Juice. It is delicious! They have a variety of choices with fruits and vegetables and all of the juices are cold pressed. If you're an Athens resident you should check it out!

Take Me Back: vacation recap

Last week, Ben and I headed down to sunny South Florida to visit my brother {Lyle}, sister-in-law {Sheena}, niece {Addison}, and nephew {Aiden}. They moved from Athens a couple months ago, and it has been a huge adjustment not getting to see them whenever I please!
excited to board our flight
We got into Fort Lauderdale around 9pm Wednesday night. I wish I had a video of how excited Addison got when she finally saw us waiting for them. It was precious! We stayed up late Wednesday night watching Duck Dynasty and catching up with everyone.

We started the day Thursday with pedicures at the nail salon nearby. Sheena decided to get a manicure as well, so Aiden and I had a little fun with my sunglasses ;)
We headed to the beach Thursday afternoon. It was scorching hot on the sand! Unfortunately, I did not put on (enough) sunscreen and now have a peeling forehead thanks to that (oops).

Thursday night we went out to eat with just Sheena and Lyle while the As stayed with their babysitter.
I'll just let this picture do the talking...it was a fun night!
On Friday, we headed out on the boat, but gloomy weather & an early afternoon storm cut our fun short. We ended up stuck at the marina while Lyle and Ben drove the boat back to the other marina to get the car.

Saturday we woke up to more rain showers, so we decided to go out for lunch to my favorite restaurant of the trip, Roccos Tacos. I'm not sure if it was the watermelon margaritas (it was national watermelon day..we had to celebrate!) or freshly made gaucamole, but it would be dangerous if we had a Roccos in Athens.
Fajitas in a lava rock

A happy baby boy!

I think Lyle was tired of Addison's pictures lol
Sunday was by far the best day we had out on the water. We got to the marina around 8 that morning and headed to Peanut Island. We had so much fun just soaking up the sun and having some family time.

Before we headed back home Monday we went out to a late lunch and did a bit of shopping in downtown Del Ray. I was so sad to leave everyone...of course I had a little cry session at the airport when we said our goodbyes. Now I'm just counting down the days until I can go back for another visit!!

Taking the Plunge

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog, Life with Leah! After thinking for a (very) long time about starting my own blog, I am finally taking the plunge. I am excited to launch this blog and share a peek into my personal life with you all.

Lets start off with a little bit about me:
I'm a southern girl born & bred in Athens, Georgia. I'm currently a student at UGA (Go Dawgs!) where I'm about to begin my senior year. I enjoy exercising, cooking & trying out new recipes and foods, a good sale, traveling, and spending time outside.
my mom & I after finishing the Athens Half Marathon this past year

I have a wonderful family, friends, and the best boyfriend I could ask for. His name is Ben. We have been together for almost two years, and I'm sure you will be hearing plenty about him on this blog!
Ben & I at a UGA game last year

A recent Terrapin Trip

I feel like I should also go ahead and introduce y'all to my sister Lana since I know you will be hearing about her a good bit too. She is my best friend and I could not imagine my life without her! She will be a freshman at UGA in the fall & she is moving in with me over the next month. I can hardly wait!!
Lana & I at the Luke Bryan concert this past weekend...so much fun!!
Well, that's all for now. Here's to my first post & many more!!!
